Where access behind a plain hole flange is limited, it is possible to use a nut plate. Each set consists of two half-moon shaped metal pieces with tapped holes and a set of bolts and washers. Access with a spanner is only required from the top as the plates are self locating behind the flange. If the threads become damaged, it enables replacement of the plate without touching the flange. Bolts should be lightly coated with thread lubricant during construction to prevent seizure after a system bakeout.
